REPORTS
Regional Director
Reported back from the meeting of the Provincial Board of Directors, held on April 18, 1999.
  • There are funds available if anyone is interested in synchro. So far, only Crescent Beach has a synchro team in our region.
  • There was a clarification of the two-hour rule: two hours swimming, whether coached or not, is the maximum time October to April inclusive.
  • Coquitlam have won the bid for the 2000 Provincials; they will be held in three pools - Coquitlam were the only ones to submit a bid.
  • There were handouts from Pepsi Cola with regard to fundraising. If a club can find a place to install a drink machine, Pepsi will give 80% of the revenue (after costs) to the club and 20 % to the Provincial Board.
  • It was decided that it would be too expensive to get a federal tax number for donations, it would also involve the constitution to be changed.
  • BCSSA Auction - a motion was put forward to cancel the auction for next year; it was felt that it was always the same people and that new people, with different ideas, need to organize it. The motion was defeated. This year’s auction raised $ 15-16,000 - down a bit on last year.
  • Eric Gottardi announced it would be his last yeas as the Provincial Coaches’ Representative.
  • The date for the bids for Provincials 2001 will be January 15, 2000.
  • If anyone finds advertisers for the Provincial Program, their club will get a split of the money.

A draft copy of the package for the Regional Championships 1999 was handed out to all Clubs for them to look over. All Presidents are to bring back to the next meeting their choice of responsibilities for the Regionals, plus any changes to the package.

Registrar
There will be a meeting on May 19, at Ladner Leisure Centre, for all club registrars at 7:45 pm - there is a new program which needs to be discussed. All registrations fees plus the lists of swimmers will be needed for the next meeting on June 2.
Director of Officials
North Delta and White Rock should look within their clubs to find a Director of Officials as there are representatives from other clubs in the region on the Regional Executive. Fraser South has the fewest master officials.
Secretary - No report.
Coaches' Representative
There will be a volunteer coaches’ clinic to be held on May 16 at Ladner Outdoor Pool. Colleen would like the phone numbers for the Head Coaches for Surrey, Cloverdale and Crescent Beach. There will be a fee of $150 for the instructor plus $10 per swimmer for a handbook. [See Motion 1]. The clinic is suited to 14-year olds, but 13-year olds will be accepted. Any clubs interested should contact Colleen at 594-1233. Only six coaches from our region attended the Coaches’ Conference. At the conference there was a lot of discussion regarding the new Category ‘0’ 3 - there were concerns that there will be no competition in Div. 8.
Water Polo
Richmond have a lot of returning players due to the new age rules.
Diving - No report.
Synchro - No report.
Clubs -
Boundary Bay There are 80-85 registered, down 10-15 swimmers from last year. Lost some older swimmers and gained some. New Head Coach this year is Kirsten Lokseth.
Cloverdale No report.
Crescent Beach No report.
Ladner Started on Monday at the Leisure Centre - 120 registered with 10-12 on a waiting list. Doing a master swim twice a week. Brian Nishi Head Coach.
North Delta 189 swimmers registered, with 30 6-unders. Start in the outdoor pool next week.
Richmond In the water, registration at about 130. Eric is still Head Coach.
Surrey Up and running. m the water next Monday at Bear Creek, probably be around 85-900 swimmers, same as last year.
White Rock Down a little bit from last year, over 70 right now but still trickling in. Start next week at Bear Creek in the evenings, then at their own pool.
Delta Diving No report.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
  • The 1999 ‘A’ cut-off times - same as 1998. [See Motion 2].
  • North Delta will host a Stroke and Turn clinic in early June, during the week. A date to be set later and the Presidents will be called. The region needs someone to host a Referee/Meet Manager clinic.
  • Team Aquatics will be the region $250 a year if we let them bid on regional t-shirts, etc. They are also willing to provide a t-shirt to each swimmer who breaks a regional record. The $250 could be used for the volunteer coaches’ clinic each year.
  • There needs to be a follow-up on the motion that went to the Provincial Board meeting with regard to the relay PQTs.
