4. CLUBS
Boundary Bay – Not present
Cloverdale – Some coaches will be
staying on for next season. Having
problems securing pool time. Currently
running winter maintenance out of (2) pools.
Welcomed all to attend the Surrey pool allocation committee meeting
to be held Wednesday Oct 10th.
Contact Donna Beaton for more details. Were declined “Challenge
Grant” from HRDC as they were deemed “not as needy as other groups”.
It was suggested to have HRDC clarify what they define as “needy”,
as other swim clubs have been successful in obtaining funding.
It seems that to obtain funding you need to be very persistent and ask
many questions.
Crescent Beach- Not present
Ladner – Has started winter maintenance. Restricted to 1 or 2 lanes at Ladner Leisure Centre. Noted that the pre-season rate for the outdoor pool will be increasing. The pre-season weekly rates for 2002 will be $800 to be increasing in 2003 to $2000/wk for May & June.
North Delta – Held AGM 2 weeks ago. Winter maintenance is up and running with 116 registered swimmers (52 are new swimmers). At this point they do not have pool access after Dec 9th. Actively working on securing pool time.
Richmond – Not present
Surrey – Last season they had 91 swimmers of which 40 were competitive. 19 of those 40 swimmers went to Provincials. Have just received approval for Gaming funds. Noted that last year Bear Creek Park charged them $16,000 for the use of the pool. Finding pool costs very expensive and rely heavily on Gaming funds. Noted that “user groups” at Bear Creek Park subsidize public swimming, as there is no charge for public swimming. Winter maintenance is up and running on a drop-in basis. Have a whole pool, 1 hr per week.
White Rock – Held 1st meeting last night. Winter maintenance is up and running. Have 1hr of pool time per week.
o Thanks to Bob Munro for a job well done!
o Asked club presidents to ask their membership for feedback regarding holding future Regionals at Watermania and to report back next meeting.
o Steve & Mike to provide scenarios for next meeting as to holding a single or double ended championship meet.
