Summer Intro Program

Why do the Tritons have an Intro program?

The Intro program was developed to bring young new swimmers into the wonderful world of competitive summer swimming.

 What is it?

The Intro Program last for four weeks is an hour long- fifteen minutes of stretching and games out of the water and forty-five minutes of swimming instructional time. At the end of the program we have a small graduation ceremony for the kids to celebrate their accomplishments. Unlike swimming lessons where swimmers spend most of the lesson playing, the Intro Program teaches the four competitive strokes, with a major focus on Freestyle and Backstroke. Swimmers will also be introduced to dives and turns. While teaching your swimmers to swim is the main goal of the Intro Program, getting your children to develop a love for the sport is our first priority, so every day will include fun activities and games, most of which are related to the skills they need to learn.

What does my child need to be able to do?

To swim in the Intro Program, your child must be comfortable in water and be able to put their head under, we can take it from there. If your child loves the water they will quickly succeed and will soon be swimming full stroke.

 As a parent, what can/should I do?

We ask that parents bring their child and leave them with the coaches each day. Allowing the coaches to work with your child alone supports the child’s success and is when we see the best results. We do encourage parents to watch the lesson outside the pool fence. We also encourage parents to communicate with the coaches daily and Carmen is happy to share with you, how your child is doing.

Who is helping my child learn?

Our program provides a unique volunteer coaching opportunity for our older swimmers which translates to an advantage for your children. For every two to three children, there will be one experienced swimmer working with your child to assist in giving feedback and support. Carmen Keller is the Head coach of the program and creates the practices and guides the learning with the help of these volunteers.

 What else?

The Intro program is fun for young kids because the swimmers end up feeling very successful. They love progressing from being able to swim two meters to being able to swim a whole length of the pool. They feel proud of themselves, love making new friends, and connecting with their coaches. It is great program and we look forward to meeting your little swimmer.
