on Saturday and Sunday. You choose to go one or both days on the sign up sheet
posted two to three weeks before the meet. Dev = Development Meets
for
those swimmers new to the club, development meets are held during the week and
run approximately 3-4 hours in the late afternoon to evening. They are
especially for new swimmers in the younger divisions to introduce them to
competition with great amounts of fun, less officiating and more ease. Faster
swimmers who exceed cutoff times for various events swim those at the weekend
meets. Club Black and Teal
the Cloverdale Tritons hosts their own fun meet,
family BBQ, parents relay and social this evening at Greenaway pool. The last
Wednesday in July sees everyone get together for a great extended evening in the
park. Cancellation Policy Please note, as per the parents handbook which is found on the website, when you sign up for a swim meet you commit the club to paying the cost of the entry fees for each event your child is swimming. Once the entries are done – usually the week before the meet – we can no longer get a refund. The club will charge you for the expense if you do not attend the meet after the entries are done. Expectations for Swim Meets ·
You
must sign your swimmer up for the meets you wish for them to attend
on the sign-up sheet provided. Information about each swim meet is usually
posted for at least a week prior to the deadline (providing we receive the
information on time from the clubs hosting the meets). If you would like your
child to attend, you will need to check the columns indicating which days (or
both) you would like him/her to attend. Coaches will choose the events until
Regionals at which time both the coach and swimmer will decide what events are
best. Please expect your child to be participating in Relays at every meet
s/he has been signed up for. Please
let us know as soon as possible if your swimmer is unable to stay for relays. If
you decide your child must pull out of a relay late in the day, you are
responsible for finding a replacement. ·
If you miss the
sign-up period, and the entry date has passed, we will attempt to enter your
child via the Meet manager or deck entry but we cannot guarantee your child will
be entered into the meet. If we are successful in getting your child into the
meet you will be required to pay the
meet entry fees for the races your child swims. ·
If
you have signed your child up for a particular swim meet, then do not attend,
you will be billed the cost of his/her entries. **The
validation list for each swim meet will be posted a day or two after the
deadline for sign up. Please check this validation to ensure your swimmer has
been entered and if they are only swimming one day – please check to ensure
they are entered on the correct day The Role of the coach during the swim meets ·
To
know what races they are swimming
·
To
talk to your swimmer before and after
each race.
· To time and record info about his/her race. ***Please know that there are rules that coaches are (supposed) to follow on the deck at swim meets. We are not allowed to “coach from the deck” and we are not supposed to run up and down along side your child as s/he swims. Coaches who do this are a huge annoyance to the deck officials (thereby putting their swimmers at risk of disqualification) and all of the other coaches, as they hinder our ability to do our jobs properly. We cannot record feedback, times and splits if we are running around and/or when coaches who are, get in our way. It is the responsibility of the swimmers (and parents of younger swimmers) to get to their races on time If your child misses their event….they miss their event – this is often a hard lesson to learn for many swimmers but a very valuable one. Coaches do not belong in the marshalling area and are not wanted there either so please do not ask us to go. We may hold the hand of a new/development swimmer the first few times but each swimmer needs to learn to handle the ropes of a swim meet on their own – and they all do fineJ Please remember that it is our job to coach your swimmer, not parent them. Instinctively, we as parents, want to protect our children from stressing situations so while it may be your place to coddle and cuddle your child in such situations, it is ours to just pat them on the back, tell them they can do it and send them on their way. We promise they will be fine:) Relay Policy Every
swimmer will be given equal opportunity to swim on relays until the last meet
before Regionals, at which point, the fastest combination of swimmers will be
chosen regardless of age and division. This is in order to qualify as many
swimmers/teams as possible for Provincials. Coaches discretion! If you are finding that this is not the case, please talk to us ASAP. Putting together relays can be a long, frustrating job and there are many ways in which oversights and mistakes can (and do) occur. Warm-ups · It is expected that all swimmers from the Junior level and up, will be at warm-ups. Attire· Team gear is preferable and encouraged. Team suits are strongly recommended and team caps are mandatory for swimmers with hair long enough to be tied back · Please make sure your swimmers are dressed appropriately for the weather and have extra clothing to accommodate any weather changes that may occur during the day. Please pack hats and sunscreen for all meets and it is highly recommended that each swimmer have an extra suit, goggles and cap at every meet. Nutrition ·
No junk
food before or during the competition– it will be taken away.
·
Pack easily
digestible foods. Granola (not chocolate dippedJ),
cereal bars, fruit, crackers and pack lots of water or watered-down sports
drinks.
