Fun Facts

The most world championship swimming medals won is 13, by Michael Gross. The German has won five gold, five silver, and three bronze, from 1982 to 1990. At the LA Games in 1984, he won the 100-m butterfly to become the first West German male to win an Olympic swimming event. Gross often claimed to be more interested in politics than sport, and after retiring from the swimming circuit he went on to become a journalist. The most medals won by a woman is 10, by Kornelia Ender, with eight gold and two silver medals, from 1973 to 1975.
