Ben Geary -
Swimming Coach
Ben has been swimming competitively for the past 10 years. He started
summer swimming in Coquitlam, his hometown, with the Sharks and
succeeded at a young age. He swam for the Sharks until he was 12, when
he then started year round swimming with the Simon Fraser Aquatics swim
club. Swimming with SFA for 3 seasons, Ben was picked as a member of
Team BC at the age of 15. With SFA he achieved many qualifying times
including those at the Junior National level. After leaving SFA, he is
now swimming his first year with the Haney Seahorses, and still enjoys
competing every summer. His favorite events are IM and butterfly and
plays soccer as well. Ben is excited and looking forward to his first
year coaching for Haney. |

Talana Madu -
Swim Coach
I began summer swimming at the age of 7 in the summer of 2002 with the
Haney Neptunes. I was unable to swim a complete length of the pool even
though that was a requirement to join. But, my love for the water
quickly showed when I completed the swim-a-thon three weeks later doing
60 lengths in one hour. Shortly after joining swimming I also joined the
Synchronized swimming discipline too, competing at many competition and
receiving numerous awards. Last year I retired from Synchro receiving
gold in my age category at Provincials. Swimming has always been a major
part of my life. Along with that it is a very positive experience for me
and I hope to make your child’s a positive one too. I really enjoy
coming to the pool and coaching the kids and seeing their love for
swimming grow. This year I hope to bring my very energetic and
enthusiastic attitude to the club and help all of my swimmers reach
their goals and make swimming a fun and fulfilling experience for them.
In my spare time I enjoy volunteering with the city of Maple Ridge
children’s day camps. I love to play the piano and editing of photos
along with doing numerous other sports like volleyball, basketball,
track and field. |

Michael
Abebe -
Swim Coach
Michael, the Martian Manhunter is the last of his Martian race. In the
comics, Michael is the only coach who has been in every incarnation of
the Justice League. In the animated series, his strength is diminished
to distinguish him from Superman and Wonder Woman. Instead his shape
shifting powers and telepathic ability will be emphasized. He’ll also be
able to phase and alter his density. Michael has always been the silent
center of the league. He doesn’t talk much, and is always brooding, but
he is by far the most experienced of the league. |
