Welcome to another
year of Speed Swimming with the Haney Neptunes!
Haney Neptunes Speed Swimming offers programs for individuals from 5
years old and up! For the younger set, please check out our information
on the Hammond Development Program.
Practices start May 1st for all
swim groups. Specific swim group times
will be made available at the parent information session as well as the
Water Polo and Synchronized Swimming schedules. Swimmers may attend
three practices a week but attendance is not mandatory. Coaches will
assign each swimmer to a group of swimmers of similar age and ability
level. Swimmers can only attend practices made available to them. Any
requests to change practice times MUST be in writing and MUST be
approved by the coach prior to the change occurring.
To ensure parents as well as swimmers have a positive season; please be
aware of the following:
The TEAM INFORMATION BOARD is located
across from the washrooms in the mail lobby area of the leisure
center. Information regarding swim meets, relays, meet results,
practice changes, and fund raising will be posted on a regular
basis.
Parents are not allowed on the pool deck.
Parents are permitted to watch their children swim from public
seating areas only.
PLEASE DO NOT INTERRUPT PRACTICE TO SPEAK
TO THE COACH! Interrupting practice could endanger swimmers’ safety
by taking the coach’s attention away from the pool.
Directors of swimming, water polo,
synchronized swimming are to be contacted if you have questions or
wish to discuss any aspect of the program.
NO OUTDOOR FOOTWEAR IS PERMITTED ON DECK.
Please remove all outdoor footwear, you may change into deck only
shoes or go barefoot.
As swimming is a very technical sport, we ask
that parents allow the coach and swimmer to work together to obtain
optimal results. Our coaches are highly qualified and have experience
necessary to bring out the best in each swimmer. Since all children grow
and develop at different rates please do not compare your child to other
swimmers. Strokes will improve as swimmers’ muscles develop, give your
child time to grow at their pace. OUR AIM IS FOR PERSONAL BESTS!
Attention Grade 10 - 11 - 12 Students:
Are you aware that all three of the
disciplines offered by the Neptunes can give you high school credits?
That's right, your hard work at practice can give you an extra credit!
For example if you're a grade 10
swimmer who is swimming at a BC Provincial Championship standard, or, a
Synchro swimmer who is on a performance Development squad, you can apply
through your school to the Ministry of Education for an external
credentials credit equivalent to a class credit. See your high school
for more details!
Proper swimwear is
important to your success!
Just a quick reminder to
ensure that your child has proper attire when practicing.
This means a good set of goggles that do not leak and a
Speedo swim suit or jammer. Girls should have a one piece
bathing suit and guys should have a Speedo swim suit or
jammers. A good set of goggles are Speedo Venquishers.
Also, I see that many of the kids get hair in their face
when swimming, by getting a swim cap will cause no
distraction. If you need any of this attire or have
further questions regarding swim wear, contact Jennifer
Johnson who is
the Director of Swim Wear at:

To all the new and returning members, welcome to the 2009 summer
season! Hopefully everyone has had an exciting and prosperous time since
last summer! But here we are at the beginning of a brand new season! My
name is Kevin Loong and I am very excited to be joining the Haney
Neptunes family this summer as Head Coach! We will be working hard and
having a lot of fun this summer! All the coaches, new and returning, are
extremely excited for the new season! The summer season will emphasize
hard work and friendly competition. There will be numerous meets
throughout the summer and I encourage everyone to participate! Please
check the website and bulletin board regularly for information that will
be posted as soon as it is available. Such information includes meet
sign-ups and warm-up times and event validation sheets. Some important
competitions to keep in mind are our Haney Neptunes home meet on June 6
and 7, the Agassiz “Camping” meet June 13 and 14, and of course
Regionals July 31 to August 2. Let’s try and have a great turn-out for
these meets, especially our Home meet! With regards to practices, please
bring a water bottle to practice as it is important to stay well
hydrated at all times. As well, please be prepared with proper attire at
practices be that running shoes for dryland, or caps and goggles for the
water! Attendance is also very important because our pool time is
limited and the summer season is relatively short. Please try to make as
many practices as possible as this will help in getting the most out of
the short season. If only part of a practice is possible due to other
commitments, please still try to attend.
As with previous years, expectations for swim meets are:
Swimmers arrive 15 minutes prior to pool warm-up to begin group
activation and land warm-up. This allows coaches to check
attendance, and prepares the group for the pool warm-up.
Swimmers will all attend warm-ups. Besides getting physically
prepared for racing, it is an opportunity for swimmers to get
experience in a less familiar pool.
Swimmers will talk to their coach before and after their races.
Swimmers will wear team gear at swim meets (caps, suits,
t-shirts).
No junk food at swim meets. Please bring healthy food to
competitions.
And of course, please respect teammates, coaches, officials and
parents from our club as well as from other clubs. This will help
everyone to have an enjoyable and enriching experience this season.
Let’s have a great summer season!
