Micheal Gross (West Germany) won 13 medals - five gold, five silver and three bronze - from 1982 to 1990. FYI: The most World Championship Medals won by a woman is 10. Kornelia Ender (GDR - now Germany) - eight gold and two silver in 1973 and 1975.

Longest Ocean Swim

Susie Maroney of Australia swam 122 miles (197 km) from Mexico to Cuba - the longest distance ever swum without flippers in open sea - in 38 hr 33 min. She arrived in Cuba on June 1, 1998.
