PARENTS’ HANDBOOK


Parent Responsibilities
Encourage children to involve themselves in this sport for their own enjoyment (because they want to)
Encourage children to follow all club and BCSSA rules
Help maintain discipline at club functions
Help with fundraising and volunteer for committees
Attend club meeting
Try to have your child attend all practices
Try to have your child attend one swim meet
Attend swim meets and volunteer for various duties
Provide supervision of children at swim meets
Ensure your child has all needed equipment for practices and swim meets
Sign up early for swim meets you plan to attend
Provide transportation to meets or make arrangements for swimmers to travel with a teammate
Provide swimmers with positive feedback and encouragement — teach your child that an honest effort is as important as winning
Do not question a coach's decision or criticize the coach in public — take your concerns to the coach privately or speak to an executive member
Do not publicly question an official's judgement
Let the coach know 10-12 days in advance if you're attending a swim meet so we can register your child

Swimmer's Responsibilities
Swim for the "fun of it"
Comply with all club and swim meet rules
Strive for your personal best
Maintain sufficient rest and nutrition
Attend all swim meets and make all races you are entered
Help new swimmers on the team with swim meet "routines"
Report directly to the coach after each race
Represent your club and community in a positive manner
Display good sportsmanship and team spirit in and out of the pool
Cheer your teammates
Treat all swimmers as you would like to be treated
Cooperate and show respect to your coaches, teammates, other swimmers, officials, and pool staff
Discuss attending a swim meet with your parents — we need to know 10-12 days prior to a swim meet so we can register you
