VI Regional Director's Report May 2009

Greetings everyone and welcome to another summer full of swimming and fun!

By now all of you are in the water and splashing away into the season. Our official meet season starts on the May 30th weekend in Duncan. Although this is the regular time for Duncan to host their meet, it has changed significantly this year. Instead of being a "B" Development Meet, it is now a Regional Development Meet that has all events available. This means that if you only swim at Duncan, you still qualify to swim at Regional's. In the past, you would have had to swim in another meet with all events available. It is my hope that we will see great participation in our Island meets, as all of the clubs hosting these events deserve our best possible support.

I would like to send out thanks to firstly the Regional Executive for all the hard work that they do, much of it behind the scenes. Secondly, to the clubs for all that they do to make the BCSSA Island Region the best in the Province. Thirdly, thanks to the swimmers and their parents for the support that they show. Without the swimmers, there would be no Association. So please remember the reason that we are all here; it is for the swimmers. One other person that comes to mind that needs thanking is Will Kastelic from Oak Bay. Will has taken on the job of developing and keeping our web site up to date. After not having a running site for a couple of years, this is an invaluable way of posting information. Thanks Will.

Looking forward to this year's Provincial Championships, there will be a lot going on. This year, the Board of Directors is having a celebration marking the previous 50 years that the BCSSA has been in existence. There will be a large tented area for the celebration. The plan is to have 3 different theme days, and hopefully several high profile athletes in attendance at different times of the day. These athletes could be members of the major sports teams from Vancouver, Olympic level athletes, and alumni of the BCSSA. It should be a great competition and event in Abbotsford!

Well, that is about it for now, I hope to use the web site as a way to report to the members on a regular basis, so stay tuned. I hope to see you all around the pool deck this summer.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask questions either of your club executive or any of the Regional Executive. We will do our best to get an answer for you.
